Bite Sleeves & Protection Sport Training Gear
A bite sleeve for dogs is the foundational piece of protection sport equipment — the training gear that separates real working-dog development from casual tug. K9 Keep Fit's protection gear is built to club-level construction standards, using French linen and reinforced internal bars that survive serious, committed bites.
Who This Gear Is For
Protection sport participants (Schutzhund, IPO, Mondioring, PSA), serious decoys, working-line breeders, and trainers building confident, committed grips. This is not entry-level gear for casual owners.
What to Look For in a Sleeve
Three things: (1) French linen cover — softer on young teeth, standard in competition; (2) reinforced internal bite bar — prevents crushing during full-mouth grips; (3) correct arm orientation (right-arm vs left-arm). Our ShieldGuard Premium kit ships with right-arm as default; contact us for left.
Training Progression
Foundation tug → prey drive on a rag → transition to sleeve cover rag → quarter-sleeve → half-sleeve → full competition sleeve. Never skip stages. A dog rushed into a full sleeve without foundation develops crushing bites and stress behavior.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age can a dog start bite work?
Foundation tug at 8 weeks. Transition to sleeve materials after adult teeth at 6–7 months. Full protection work after structural maturity at 18 months.
French linen or jute — which is better?
French linen is the competition standard and kinder on young mouths. Jute is cheaper and coarser, used in introductory or prey-building phases.
Do I need a decoy stick?
Yes, for distraction work during engagement. Our ShieldGuard kit includes a training stick.
